Napoleon Ascent Gas Fireplace Selection and Installation

Find the fire that fits your home

A traditional fire can make an everyday room feel more welcoming without turning the fireplace into an oversized feature. The Napoleon Ascent family offers several proportions and a relatively shallow design, making it a useful starting point when wall depth and room layout matter. Chimneys Plus helps you compare the 30, 36, 42 and 46 before choosing a finished look.

Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.

What makes this family different

The included oak-log presentation gives the Ascent a familiar hearth character. Approved interior panels, fronts, trims and media options let you refine that appearance without starting with the most elaborate feature package. A blower and remote are optional choices to discuss rather than assume are standard on every unit.

Selection and installation, considered together

Consider the Ascent when you want an inviting log fire and a straightforward-looking installation. A shallower appliance may help with design flexibility, but it still needs its specified enclosure, venting, clearances and finish materials. These are decorative fireplaces, not a substitute for a home heating system; outage burner operation should not be confused with a rated backup-heating plan.

This is a complete built-in gas fireplace with its own firebox, not an insert that requires a separate existing fireplace. Its direct-vent combustion system uses outside air and exhausts outdoors rather than using already conditioned room air for combustion. A suitable vent route, the complete enclosure, finish materials and service access all matter; the appliance’s body dimensions alone do not establish installation fit.

Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates gas piping, required electrical work and permitting. We check the fuel supply and the selected model’s requirements before finalizing the installation. Electrical needs depend on the exact Ascent ignition and accessory package. Electronic models use a transformer for normal operation and their specified battery backup for outages; optional blowers require household power. A millivolt gas control is different and does not itself require household electricity. We establish the actual wiring scope for the selected unit instead of assuming that battery backup means no electrical work.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Napoleon Ascent a fireplace or an insert?

It is a complete built-in fireplace. It can be part of a new framed installation or an appropriate fireplace replacement; it is not the gas insert you would simply slide into an approved existing wood-burning fireplace.

Which Napoleon Ascent size is best for a smaller room?

The 30 is a useful model to compare when space is limited, but size should follow the room and installation plan. We consider how the fire looks from your seating area, available enclosure space and everyday comfort before recommending a size.

Can the Napoleon Ascent operate during a power outage?

Yes! Electronic Ascent models have battery-backed burner controls, provided the specified working batteries are connected and gas remains available. Millivolt versions have a different, non-household-powered gas control. An optional blower does not operate on the control batteries. Ascent models are decorative appliances, so this is a flame-operation benefit rather than a promise of heating coverage.

Does the Napoleon Ascent require an electrical connection?

Electrical needs depend on the exact Ascent ignition and accessory package. Electronic models use a transformer for normal operation and their specified battery backup for outages; optional blowers require household power. A millivolt gas control is different and does not itself require household electricity. We establish the actual wiring scope for the selected unit instead of assuming that battery backup means no electrical work. We coordinate the electrical work, so you do not need to arrange that part of the project separately.

Can I personalize a Napoleon Ascent without changing its basic style?

Yes. Approved panels, fronts, trim and media choices can change the character around the oak-log fire. We confirm compatibility for the specific size and ignition version rather than assuming every Ascent accessory fits every model.

Can the Napoleon Ascent use an existing gas line?

Possibly. Chimneys Plus checks fuel type, pipe capacity, pressure, shutoff access and the demand from other appliances. An existing connection does not automatically mean that the line is adequate for the new fireplace.

Does installing or replacing a Napoleon Ascent require permits?

Yes, fireplace switch-outs require permitting even when a gas line already exists. Chimneys Plus confirms the applicable requirements and handles permits for the installation.

How should I maintain a Napoleon Ascent?

Follow the model’s care instructions and arrange qualified inspection and service at least annually. Burner and pilot condition, approved media placement, glass, controls and venting all deserve attention. Keep required barriers installed and keep enclosure air openings unobstructed.
