This is the time of year when we are reminded that we have much for which to be thankful.

Our community is vibrantly connected to other people around the world and there is evidence that the connection is changing lives.

Here’s some of what I see – how about you?

The Chatham Hunger Walk

On November 5th, we had the Chatham Hunger Walk sponsored by CORA Food Pantry. It is hard to believe that right here in our backyard children and families are not able to have confidence in their next meal. CORA sponsored the food walk to raise awareness and to help stock and distribute food to families who find themselves struggling to eat and eat well.

The HOPE International Investing in Dreams Breakfast

We met October 27th early in the morning to celebrate and to give.  HOPE uses local funds to help fight poverty. HOPE facilitates small groups of villagers to save money and to use those funds to help their families break out of the poverty cycle. HOPE also works with small groups of hometown entrepreneurs to extend small loans, build business plans, and thereby bring meaningful work into many struggling communities across the world. Here is my daughter in law in the Dominican Republic meeting with Angela Francisco.

Angela Fransisco – lives in Samana province of Dominican Republic, her business is making coconut oil from her coconut press that she was able to purchase with a small loan from Hope.

“We sing to God with a lot of joy and if we have to dance we dance”

Operation Christmas Child

My final highlight is Operation Christmas Child which is an outreach of Samaritan’s Purse. Collection sites are all around the Triangle. Families pack together practical items and toys into shoe boxes for distribution all around the world.

Since 1990, more than 146 million children in over 150 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child.
