Urbana U30, U50 and U70 Bay and Linear Gas Fireplace Selection and Installation
A fireplace selected around your room
A fireplace can be more than a picture on one wall. Urbana’s standard-height U30, U50 and U70 models bring the flame forward into the room, with bay-style glass that lets you enjoy the fire from several seating positions. The wider U50 and U70 also offer an approved single-sided linear installation for a more contained, wall-focused composition.
Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.
This family suits homeowners who want a contemporary focal point but prefer a lower, wider viewing proportion than the Tall models. The compact U30 can make a striking feature without stretching across a large wall; the U50 and U70 give larger rooms a longer visual anchor. Choosing the right size starts with your furniture arrangement and desired warmth—not simply the largest model that will fit.
What makes this family different
The standard double-glass construction provides the safety barrier without a mesh screen across the view. Glass-to-glass corners keep the bay presentation visually open. Top lighting highlights the interior; selected configurations also offer adjustable ember-bed LED colors. Log, rock and contemporary media choices let the same general fireplace shape feel either more natural or more architectural.
We confirm the approved installation kit for the view you want. U50 and U70 can be planned as single-sided, corner or bay configurations. U30 is a bay/corner option, not a framed-in single-sided model. Its available floating-installation kit is a model-specific design option rather than permission to omit structural support.
Planning a complete installation
These are built-in gas fireplaces with their own fireboxes, not inserts that need an existing fireplace around them. Installation includes the framed enclosure, manufacturer-approved exterior venting, gas supply, electrical connection and the prescribed chase ventilation. The sealed direct-vent combustion system brings combustion air from outdoors instead of using already-conditioned room air and exhausting it outside. Chase ventilation is a separate room-side heat-management requirement; it does not replace the combustion vent.
The finish design must preserve the specified air inlets and outlets. A “Cool Surface” or double-glass feature does not allow clearances to be ignored or guarantee compatibility with every television, mantel or finish. We coordinate the fireplace instructions with the requirements of the materials and equipment around it.
Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates the gas piping, required electrical work and permitting, including applicable requirements for a fireplace replacement. You do not need to arrange those trades separately.

Frequently asked questions
Can an Urbana standard Bay fireplace become a single-sided linear fireplace?
The U50 and U70 have approved one-sided installation arrangements. The U30 does not permit a framed-in single-sided installation. We select the appropriate model and installation kit before designing the enclosure, rather than treating every size as interchangeable.
Does an Urbana standard Bay and Linear fireplace need an existing fireplace?
No. It includes its own firebox and is installed within a properly designed enclosure. It is not an insert for an existing masonry or factory-built fireplace.
Can an Urbana standard Bay and Linear fireplace run during a power outage?
No—not as a standard outage-heating solution. The double-glass design uses electrically powered cooling and a safety circuit, and the installation requires household electricity. Remote-control batteries do not power that cooling system. Any power vent also requires electricity. If outage heat is a priority, we will compare a fireplace specifically suitable for that purpose.
Does an Urbana standard Bay and Linear fireplace require electrical work?
Yes. A hardwired household electrical supply is part of the installation, not just an optional convenience for the remote. We confirm the model’s circuit, controls, lighting and any powered accessories, then handle or coordinate the required electrical work.
Can Chimneys Plus install the gas line and arrange permits for an Urbana standard Bay and Linear fireplace?
Yes. We handle or coordinate the appropriate gas piping and applicable permits along with the fireplace installation. An existing line still needs its capacity and condition checked; a replacement is not automatically exempt from permitting.
Can I place a television or combustible finish above an Urbana standard Bay and Linear fireplace?
Possibly, with the approved installation details. The enclosure’s heat-release openings, clearances and finish limits must be maintained, and the television’s own temperature and placement requirements also apply. We plan the whole wall rather than assume that a cooler-surface feature permits any arrangement.
How do I select the size of an Urbana standard Bay and Linear fireplace?
Start with the proportions of the room, seating positions and the fire view you want. We help compare the available models and their installation requirements, then plan the enclosure and required clearances around the finished design. Where room heating is a priority, we help identify a model designed for that purpose and consider the room’s layout, insulation and comfort needs.
What care does an Urbana standard Bay and Linear fireplace need?
Plan for professional inspection and service at least annually and as required by the manual. Service includes the burner and pilot, venting, glass and seals, air passages, safety components and any fans. Use only the approved interior media arrangements; do not add decorative material that changes combustion or obstructs airflow.
