Napoleon Elevation X Gas Fireplace Selection and Installation
Find the fire that fits your home
If your ideal fireplace has the visual depth of a traditional hearth, the Napoleon Elevation X deserves a close look. Its deeper firebox gives the log display a substantial presence, while electric ember-bed effects add interest beyond the flames themselves. Chimneys Plus helps compare that visual experience with the enclosure space your room can provide.
Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.
What makes this family different
The 36 and 42 models offer approved driftwood, split-oak or birch presentations, an ENDLESS EMBERS electric ember bed, an included circulating blower and remote control. Split-flow burner control lets you change the fire presentation without treating the two burner sections as separate fireplaces. Compatible panels, fronts and trim help finish the design.
Selection and installation, considered together
Choose this family when the traditional fire display is a priority and you are planning the wall as a complete feature. Optional heat management can expand finishing choices, but passive systems and powered systems are different: a fan-driven heat-distribution accessory does not become battery-powered because the burner has backup controls. The Elevation X is a decorative appliance, not a replacement for a home heating system.
This is a complete built-in gas fireplace with its own firebox, not an insert that requires a separate existing fireplace. Its direct-vent combustion system uses outside air and exhausts outdoors rather than using already conditioned room air for combustion. A suitable vent route, the complete enclosure, finish materials and service access all matter; the appliance’s body dimensions alone do not establish installation fit.
Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates gas piping, required electrical work and permitting. We check the fuel supply and the selected model’s requirements before finalizing the installation. The EX36/EX42 installation manual requires hardwiring. The blower, electric ember bed, lighting and powered heat-distribution features require household power; battery backup is for burner-control functions.

Frequently asked questions
What distinguishes the Napoleon Elevation X from a shallower traditional fireplace?
Its deeper-set firebox and illuminated ember-bed presentation are central to its appeal. We compare that look with the construction space required, rather than assuming the deepest fireplace is right for every room.
What does split flow do on the Napoleon Elevation X?
It allows a second burner section to be turned on or off to change the fire presentation. It does not mean each section has its own independently adjustable flame height.
Can the Napoleon Elevation X operate during a power outage?
Yes! With gas and working backup batteries, the burner can operate with on/off and flame-height control. The blower, electric ember effects and lighting do not operate on those batteries. Powered heat distribution cannot be promised during an outage, and a power-vent installation must be assessed separately. Do not treat this decorative fireplace as a guaranteed backup heater.
Does the Napoleon Elevation X require an electrical connection?
The EX36/EX42 installation manual requires hardwiring. The blower, electric ember bed, lighting and powered heat-distribution features require household power; battery backup is for burner-control functions. We coordinate the electrical work, so you do not need to arrange that part of the project separately.
Can the Napoleon Elevation X move warmth away from the fireplace wall?
Approved heat-management systems can redirect heat within their specific design limits. We distinguish passive arrangements from fan-driven options and explain the additional enclosure, ducting and electrical requirements before selection.
Can the Napoleon Elevation X use an existing gas line?
Possibly. Chimneys Plus checks fuel type, pipe capacity, pressure, shutoff access and the demand from other appliances. An existing connection does not automatically mean that the line is adequate for the new fireplace.
Does installing or replacing a Napoleon Elevation X require permits?
Yes, fireplace switch-outs require permitting even when a gas line already exists. Chimneys Plus confirms the applicable requirements and handles permits for the installation.
How should I maintain a Napoleon Elevation X?
Follow the model’s care instructions and arrange qualified inspection and service at least annually. Burner and pilot condition, approved media placement, glass, controls and venting all deserve attention. Keep required barriers installed and keep enclosure air openings unobstructed.
