Urbana U75 Tall Linear Screened Gas Fireplace Selection and Installation

A fireplace selected around your room

A wide fireplace can bring a large wall into balance. The Urbana U75 Tall Linear Screened pairs a 75-inch firebox with a taller viewing format, making it a strong option when you want more presence than a low ribbon-style fireplace. Its single-sided layout keeps the composition focused while the generous width gives logs and flames room to become the room’s central feature.

Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.

This is a useful model to compare when you want a substantial contemporary installation and also care about practical supplemental warmth. Unlike Urbana’s decorative Tall Ultra models, the U75 is listed as a vented gas fireplace heater. Its documented battery-backup burner operation also makes it worth discussing when occasional outage use is part of your selection criteria—provided the chosen vent system does not require electricity.

Design choices that make a difference

The U75 includes a safety screen, top lighting and Urbana’s Cool Surface System with a ventilated chase. Approved birch, driftwood and traditional-log selections offer different visual personalities, while liner, bezel and accent-media choices help the fire sit comfortably within modern or more natural interiors.

The large fireplace does not eliminate the need to match heat to the room. Its low-fire input remains substantial, so we look at insulation, room layout and how often you expect to use it. The goal is an installation you will enjoy regularly, not simply a large feature that looks impressive when switched off.

Planning the installation

These are built-in gas fireplaces with their own fireboxes, not inserts that need an existing fireplace around them. Installation includes the framed enclosure, manufacturer-approved exterior venting, gas supply, electrical connection and the prescribed chase ventilation. The sealed direct-vent combustion system brings combustion air from outdoors instead of using already-conditioned room air and exhausting it outside. Chase ventilation is a separate room-side heat-management requirement; it does not replace the combustion vent.

Chimneys Plus plans the support, clearances, vent route and surrounding finishes as a complete project. We handle or coordinate the gas piping, required electrical work and applicable permits, including the requirements for a replacement installation. A fireplace’s visible glass dimensions are not its installed footprint.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Urbana U75 Tall Linear a heater or a decorative-only fireplace?

The U75 is listed as a vented gas fireplace heater, unlike some other Urbana series classified as decorative. Its fuel-input figures help us compare models but are not a whole-home heating or square-foot coverage guarantee. We match it to the room and your comfort goals.

Can the Urbana U75 Tall Linear run during a power outage?

Yes! In a suitable non-power-vent configuration, its four-AA battery backup can operate the main burner while household power is out, provided gas remains available and the batteries are functional. Top lights do not run on backup; any electric accessory also needs its specified power. A power-vent installation cannot run on those batteries because the vent fan needs electricity.

Does battery backup mean the Urbana U75 Tall Linear needs no electrical work?

No. The manufacturer requires a hardwired power connection for normal installation. Battery backup is for loss of that supply, not a substitute for installing it. Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates the electrical work and checks the requirements of any touchscreen, lighting or powered accessory.

Does the Urbana U75 Tall Linear need an existing masonry fireplace?

No. It is a complete built-in fireplace with its own firebox. We design the enclosure, exterior vent route, structural support, gas connection and required chase ventilation around the selected model.

Can Chimneys Plus provide the gas line and permits for an Urbana U75 Tall Linear?

Yes. We handle or coordinate gas piping, required electrical work and applicable permitting. An existing gas line still needs to be checked for capacity and suitability, and a fireplace switch-out is not automatically permit-free.

Can I install a television above the Urbana U75 Tall Linear?

It may be possible with the correct design. The Cool Surface System depends on the prescribed chase construction and air openings. We also check the television’s own placement and temperature requirements. Neither the product name nor a photo is approval for an arbitrary mounting height.

How much space will the Urbana U75 Tall Linear heat?

Room layout, insulation and outdoor conditions all affect comfort. We consider both the U75’s low-fire setting and maximum input, particularly in well-insulated rooms, to help its visual scale and usable warmth work together.

What maintenance does the Urbana U75 Tall Linear need?

Arrange professional inspection and service at least annually, following the manufacturer’s schedule. The burner, pilot, vent, screen, glass and seals, air passages and control system all need attention. Check the backup batteries annually and replace them as needed, rather than discovering weak batteries during an outage.
