Urbana U30 Tall, U50 Tall and U70 Tall Bay and Linear Gas Fireplace Selection and Installation

A fireplace selected around your room

If you like the clean shape of a linear fireplace but want more room to see the flame and logs, Urbana’s Tall family adds height to the view. U30 Tall, U50 Tall and U70 Tall pair contemporary glass-sided styling with a roughly 26-inch-high front glass, creating a more substantial focal point than the standard-height versions.

Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.

These models work particularly well when a long, low ribbon of fire feels too slight for the room. The U30 Tall emphasizes a compact, dimensional bay presentation; the U50 Tall and U70 Tall offer a wider composition, including approved single-sided Linear arrangements. We help you balance the extra visual height with the mantel, wall finishes and furnishings around it.

What makes this family different

The Tall family uses double glass rather than a mesh screen in front of the fire. Top lighting brings out the interior after dark, and available ember-bed lighting adds another layer of atmosphere. Natural-looking logs, river-rock arrangements and contemporary media choices can change the room’s overall character without changing the fireplace’s basic proportions.

A taller viewing area does not automatically mean you need a larger heat input. The U30 Tall, U50 Tall and U70 Tall have their own size-related fuel-input ranges, and we consider low-fire operation as well as maximum input. That matters in well-insulated rooms where a visually impressive fireplace can otherwise feel too warm.

Planning a complete installation

These are built-in gas fireplaces with their own fireboxes, not inserts that need an existing fireplace around them. Installation includes the framed enclosure, manufacturer-approved exterior venting, gas supply, electrical connection and the prescribed chase ventilation. The sealed direct-vent combustion system brings combustion air from outdoors instead of using already-conditioned room air and exhausting it outside. Chase ventilation is a separate room-side heat-management requirement; it does not replace the combustion vent.

The finish design must preserve the specified air inlets and outlets. A “Cool Surface” or double-glass feature does not allow clearances to be ignored or guarantee compatibility with every television, mantel or finish. We coordinate the fireplace instructions with the requirements of the materials and equipment around it.

Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates the gas piping, required electrical work and permitting, including applicable requirements for a fireplace replacement. You do not need to arrange those trades separately.

Frequently asked questions

How is an Urbana Tall fireplace different from an Urbana Tall Ultra?

Tall refers to the taller glass format. Tall Ultra is a separate decorative series with a Fire-in-Log burner and different control and performance considerations. We do not transfer its features or specifications to the regular Tall family.

Does an Urbana Tall Bay and Linear fireplace need an existing fireplace?

No. It includes its own firebox and is installed within a properly designed enclosure. It is not an insert for an existing masonry or factory-built fireplace.

Can an Urbana Tall Bay and Linear fireplace run during a power outage?

No—not as a standard outage-heating solution. These double-glass fireplaces rely on electrically powered cooling and the associated safety circuit, not just the remote’s batteries. Lights and any power vent also need household power. Tell us if backup heat is a deciding factor so we can compare an appropriate alternative.

Does an Urbana Tall Bay and Linear fireplace require electrical work?

Yes. A hardwired household electrical supply is part of the installation, not just an optional convenience for the remote. We confirm the model’s circuit, controls, lighting and any powered accessories, then handle or coordinate the required electrical work.

Can Chimneys Plus install the gas line and arrange permits for an Urbana Tall Bay and Linear fireplace?

Yes. We handle or coordinate the appropriate gas piping and applicable permits along with the fireplace installation. An existing line still needs its capacity and condition checked; a replacement is not automatically exempt from permitting.

Can I place a television or combustible finish above an Urbana Tall Bay and Linear fireplace?

Possibly, with the approved installation details. The enclosure’s heat-release openings, clearances and finish limits must be maintained, and the television’s own temperature and placement requirements also apply. We plan the whole wall rather than assume that a cooler-surface feature permits any arrangement.

How do I select the size of an Urbana Tall Bay and Linear fireplace?

Start with the proportions of the room, seating positions and the fire view you want. We help compare the available models and their installation requirements, then plan the enclosure and required clearances around the finished design. Where room heating is a priority, we help identify a model designed for that purpose and consider the room’s layout, insulation and comfort needs.

What care does an Urbana Tall Bay and Linear fireplace need?

Plan for professional inspection and service at least annually and as required by the manual. Service includes the burner and pilot, venting, glass and seals, air passages, safety components and any fans. Use only the approved interior media arrangements; do not add decorative material that changes combustion or obstructs airflow.
