Napoleon Ascent Linear Gas Fireplace Selection and Installation

Find the fire that fits your home

If you prefer a long horizontal flame to a traditional square hearth, the Napoleon Ascent Linear offers an approachable place to start comparing designs. The broad view can sit comfortably in a contemporary living room or add contrast to more traditional finishes. Chimneys Plus helps match the fireplace to the wall—not the other way around.

Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.

What makes this family different

The Ascent Linear uses a glass ember-bed presentation, with approved media options for a different visual texture. The current US family page lists 36, 42, 46 and 56 models. Optional controls and heat-management choices allow the installation to be tailored, while keeping the distinction clear between the standard Linear and the more feature-rich Linear Premium.

Selection and installation, considered together

This family suits homeowners who want to prioritize the linear shape and choose accessories deliberately. We assess viewing width, surrounding cabinetry, low-fire comfort and access for future service. These are decorative gas appliances, not whole-home or rated backup heaters. Their fuel-input figures help identify the appliance and gas demand; they do not establish a square-foot coverage rating.

This is a complete built-in gas fireplace with its own firebox, not an insert that requires a separate existing fireplace. Its direct-vent combustion system uses outside air and exhausts outdoors rather than using already conditioned room air for combustion. A suitable vent route, the complete enclosure, finish materials and service access all matter; the appliance’s body dimensions alone do not establish installation fit.

Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates gas piping, required electrical work and permitting. We check the fuel supply and the selected model’s requirements before finalizing the installation. The current Ascent Linear installation manual requires hardwiring. Household power is also needed for any installed blower or powered heat-distribution accessory; the control batteries do not power those features.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Napoleon Ascent Linear different from the Ascent Linear Premium?

The standard Linear is a useful starting point when you want the horizontal fire and prefer to choose added features. Compare the Premium if included lighting, blower and its control package are priorities.

Can the Napoleon Ascent Linear work in a smaller living room?

Potentially. Start with the actual room, viewing distance and low-fire input rather than choosing the widest unit that fits the wall. We can compare sizes and heat-management arrangements to support a comfortable everyday experience.

Can the Napoleon Ascent Linear operate during a power outage?

Yes! With the specified backup batteries and gas available, the electronic burner controls can operate during an outage in an approved non-power-vent installation. Optional fans and other powered accessories are unavailable on those batteries. The fireplace remains a decorative appliance, not a guaranteed backup-heating system.

Does the Napoleon Ascent Linear require an electrical connection?

The current Ascent Linear installation manual requires hardwiring. Household power is also needed for any installed blower or powered heat-distribution accessory; the control batteries do not power those features. We coordinate the electrical work, so you do not need to arrange that part of the project separately.

Can I put a television above a Napoleon Ascent Linear?

Only with a compliant fireplace, enclosure and television arrangement. Approved heat-management kits can change the allowable design, but their outlets and installation instructions are essential parts of that design—not optional details.

Can the Napoleon Ascent Linear use an existing gas line?

Possibly. Chimneys Plus checks fuel type, pipe capacity, pressure, shutoff access and the demand from other appliances. An existing connection does not automatically mean that the line is adequate for the new fireplace.

Does installing or replacing a Napoleon Ascent Linear require permits?

Yes, fireplace switch-outs require permitting even when a gas line already exists. Chimneys Plus confirms the applicable requirements and handles permits for the installation.

How should I maintain a Napoleon Ascent Linear?

Follow the model’s care instructions and arrange qualified inspection and service at least annually. Burner and pilot condition, approved media placement, glass, controls and venting all deserve attention. Keep required barriers installed and keep enclosure air openings unobstructed.
