Flare Passage Gas Fireplace Selection and Installation

Not every fireplace needs to stretch across a long wall. Flare Passage fireplaces take the view upward, creating a tall fire feature that suits a narrower wall or an interior where a vertical shape feels more natural. The family includes Front Facing and See Through versions, plus a specifically detailed Indoor Outdoor See Through application.

Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.

Chimneys Plus can help you compare Passage with a conventional horizontal fireplace. The decision is about the room’s proportions and the places from which you want to enjoy the fire, not simply choosing the biggest glass opening.

A different proportion for the room

Passage’s tall opening gives it a distinct architectural character. Front Facing presents the fire to one space; See Through connects views on opposite sides. An approved Indoor Outdoor version can bring that connection to an exterior wall when the required kit and installation details are included.

Before choosing the configuration, think about the surrounding wall height, nearby doors and windows, and how the fire will look from a seated position. A tall fireplace may need a different relationship with art or a television than a low horizontal model. We help you consider that complete composition rather than assume another fireplace’s mantel or TV layout will transfer.

Plan the enclosure and operating systems together

Passage is a complete built-in direct-vent gas fireplace, not an insert. Its sealed combustion draws air outdoors and exhausts outside. The enclosure also needs the specified heat-management arrangement and service access. Outdoor-kit approval, exterior weather detailing and required indoor openings are checked separately for an Indoor Outdoor installation.

The safety-barrier choice matters to operation: Flare identifies Passive Double Glass for Front Facing Passage and active Double Glass for See Through Passage. Normal installation needs household electrical power. Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates the gas piping, required electrical work and permits, including additional requirements from powered venting or heat management.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a Flare Passage fireplace different from a linear fireplace?

Its tall, narrow viewing shape is the main distinction. It creates a vertical focal point rather than a long horizontal band of fire.

Is the Flare Passage viewing window exactly 30 inches wide?

The nominal model name uses 30, but the current product table lists the actual viewing width at approximately 28 5/16 inches. The full appliance and framing dimensions are different again, so we use the selected model’s drawings for the build.

Can a Flare Passage fireplace be seen from two rooms?

Yes, the See Through version has opposite viewing faces. Front Facing serves one side. We help you choose based on the wall location and the sightlines you want to preserve.

Can a Flare Passage fireplace be installed between indoors and outdoors?

Flare lists a specific Indoor Outdoor See Through Passage configuration. We confirm that version, its Outdoor Kit and the required weather and enclosure details; ordinary indoor approval is not enough by itself.

Can a Flare Passage fireplace provide heat during a power outage?

Yes, when the complete installation uses an approved screen or eligible Passive Double Glass configuration with backup batteries, gas available and no AC-dependent operating system. Front Facing Passage is the family member Flare identifies for Passive Double Glass. Active glass cooling, Power Vent and Active Heat Flex installations require AC and cannot operate on batteries alone.

Does a Flare Passage fireplace need gas, electrical work and permits?

Yes. Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates those requirements as part of the installation. Battery compatibility does not remove the normal electrical requirement, and a replacement still needs its applicable permitting review.
