Vermont Castings Stardance Gas Stove Selection and Installation

Traditional stove styling with room to enjoy the fire

The Stardance Direct Vent is a midsize option in the Vermont Castings gas-stove range. It offers a traditional cast-iron presence for customers who want a visible fire and useful room warmth without building a fireplace around the appliance.

Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.

Chimneys Plus can help you compare the Stardance with the smaller Intrepid, larger Radiance and other suitable stoves. You do not need to know the model name before you contact us.

When you’re adding a fire feature where none exists, a freestanding gas stove can offer beautiful flames, comfortable warmth, and backup heat with less remodeling and a smaller overall investment than a built-in fireplace. It’s still a significant home improvement, but typically avoids the framed enclosure and extensive finish work of a new built-in fireplace.

Warmth and character for everyday living

  • Classic cast-iron styling and compatible finish options.
  • A midsize stove format between the Intrepid and Radiance.
  • Direct-vent combustion that keeps combustion air and exhaust separate from the room.
  • Operating choices with controls and electrical requirements specific to the ignition version.
  • Backup room heat, with the correct gas supply and outage provisions for the selected configuration.

An installation matched to the room

As a freestanding stove, the Stardance does not require an existing fireplace. We check the proposed location, approved vent route, floor requirements, nearby walls or shelves and gas-line arrangement. An existing chimney can only be used when the complete approved venting arrangement is suitable.

IntelliFire Touch models require normal household electrical power. Their batteries provide emergency backup, not a permanent alternative to a power connection. Standing-pilot models differ, and electrically powered fans need AC power. Chimneys Plus coordinates any necessary electrical work, gas piping and permits as part of the project.

The Chimneys Plus team includes CSIA- and NFI-certified professionals. Together with our North Carolina general contractor and fuel-piping licenses, these qualifications reflect our commitment to knowledgeable fireplace installation and service.

Frequently asked questions

Who should consider the Stardance?

It is worth considering if you want a traditional cast-iron gas stove in a midsize format. We compare its appearance and heating range with your room and preferences rather than assuming a bigger stove is always better.

Does the Vermont Castings Stardance need to go inside a fireplace?

No. The Stardance is freestanding, but an existing hearth and masonry chimney can still offer a useful way to add convenient gas heat. Its top-vent system includes an approved arrangement for connecting through an eligible existing masonry chimney.

Chimneys Plus can assess your fireplace opening, hearth and chimney to identify a suitable stove location and vent route. Available space, floor requirements, mantel and side-wall clearances, and room for the vent components all matter. Approval to use a chimney does not by itself mean the stove will fit inside the fireplace opening.

How do you determine whether the Vermont Castings Stardance fits?

We check the exact stove configuration and its complete installation drawing, including wall and shelf clearances, floor requirements, vent routing and service access. The body dimensions alone do not establish fit, and the vent connection can add to the required space.

Heating suitability matters too. We consider the room’s size and layout, ceiling height, insulation and how you want to use the Vermont Castings Stardance. The published heating-area estimate is a starting point, not a guarantee for every room. We compare its operating range, including lower-output settings, to help provide useful warmth without overheating the room.

Does the Vermont Castings Stardance need a hearth pad or special flooring?

Not always. The Stardance can be installed on suitable rigid flooring such as hardwood, ceramic tile or brick without a separate hearth. On carpet, it requires a metal or wooden panel covering the stove’s full width and depth to preserve clearance underneath. Adhesive-based vinyl is not recommended. For compatible floating vinyl plank or tile, the manufacturer recommends an alternative flooring surface in front of the stove; other manufactured flooring also needs a compatibility check. Final flooring requirements must follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions for your specific model. Chimneys Plus will confirm those when planning installation.

What does direct vent mean for the Vermont Castings Stardance?

The combustion system takes air from outdoors and exhausts outdoors rather than using room air for the fire. This sealed arrangement is different from an open fireplace and must remain intact during operation.

Does the Vermont Castings Stardance have to vent through the ceiling?

No. An approved Vermont Castings Stardance installation can vent through an exterior wall instead of the ceiling and roof. Its top-vented design still needs a vertical section of pipe before turning toward the wall. Chimneys Plus checks the permitted vent route, required clearances and outdoor termination location to determine what works for your home.

Is the Stardance a useful backup heat source?

Yes! A suitable configuration can keep providing gas heat during a power outage. Standing-pilot models operate their gas fire without household power; IntelliFire Touch models use emergency batteries. The gas supply must remain available, and AC-powered fans and accessories will not work on those batteries.

Will the Vermont Castings Stardance need electricity installed?

An IntelliFire Touch model requires household power for normal operation. Its four-AA backup is for outages, not continuous battery-only use. A standing-pilot model has different needs, while an electrical fan still requires power. Chimneys Plus coordinates any necessary electrical work for the model you choose.

Are all remotes and fan features included with the Vermont Castings Stardance?

No single feature list applies to every configuration. The ignition system and selected package determine the controls and fan equipment. We confirm the exact options and explain their operation before ordering.

Is the Vermont Castings Stardance available for natural gas or propane?

Both fuel configurations are offered. We confirm the selected model and gas supply, and any approved conversion must be completed by a qualified professional.

Can Chimneys Plus handle a new gas line for the Vermont Castings Stardance?

Yes! We are licensed in North Carolina for fuel-piping work and routinely handle it with gas-appliance installations. We also handle the required permitting.

Will the Vermont Castings Stardance installation need a permit?

In most cases, yes. Chimneys Plus confirms the permit requirements for your stove installation, including any gas-line or venting work, and handles the required permitting as part of your project. You won’t need to navigate that process on your own.

How should the Stardance be maintained?

Follow the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions and arrange regular professional service. The burner, pilot, glass, seals, controls and venting need appropriate inspection and care. Do not change the specified log arrangement.
