With turn of the century railroad heritage, Apex is quickly becoming one of the most popular communities in the Triangle. The Apex train depot, built sometime between 1867 and 1873, is designated as a Wake County landmark and serves as the central feature of downtown Apex. The surrounding shops, historic homes and restaurants host a wide variety of events such as Peak Fest in early May and “First Fridays” downtown to encourage the spark and vitality of the downtown historic district. Surrounding the downtown are the many neighborhoods of Apex like Abbington, Walden Creek, Scotts Mill, Charleston Village and Ten-Ten Road all with easy access to the RTP and surrounding communities.
