Ortal Space Creator Gas Fireplace Selection and Installation

Sometimes the goal is to define two areas without closing the room off. Ortal Space Creator fireplaces use a peninsula-style fire view to help separate living spaces while keeping the plan visually connected. They offer a different approach from a fireplace placed flat against a wall or a Tunnel enclosed between two rooms.

Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.

A Space Creator can help establish a sitting area within a larger room, or give a dividing architectural feature a useful focal point. Chimneys Plus helps you compare the proportions, viewing angles and heat needs before the room is designed around the fireplace.

An architectural feature with practical requirements

The current family consists of Space Creator 75, 120, 150 and 200. These are model designations rather than exact installed widths. The enclosure, end view, structural support, furniture arrangement and service access all need to be considered together.

Screen and double-glass choices affect both the appearance and the operating requirements. Compatible heat-management options can move some convective heat to an approved location, but the glass still releases radiant warmth. We discuss those tradeoffs early, particularly if a light visual appearance or power-outage heating matters to you.

Installation and representative specifications

Space Creator is a complete built-in gas fireplace with a sealed direct-vent combustion system. It draws combustion air from outdoors and carries exhaust outside instead of using conditioned room air. Its built-in enclosure still requires the manufacturer’s heat release and clearances.

For the Space Creator 120:

  • Published viewing area: 51 by 16 11/16 inches; use the product drawings for the complete multi-face dimensions.
  • Natural-gas input: 22,798–37,167 BTU/hour.
  • Propane input: 25,113–35,316 BTU/hour.
  • Standard venting: 5-by-8-inch coaxial direct vent.
  • Published barrier choices: micro-mesh screen or double glass.
  • Required electrical supply under the current built-in manual: 120 volts, 15 amps, 60 Hz, through a duplex receptacle.

Other Space Creator sizes have their own inputs and vent requirements. Fuel input is not delivered heat or a whole-room sizing calculation. We match the exact model to the planned room and construction.

Frequently asked questions

How is an Ortal Space Creator different from an Ortal Tunnel fireplace?

Space Creator offers a peninsula-style layout for defining an open area, while Tunnel fireplaces present opposing views through a dividing wall. We compare both with your circulation and seating plan rather than choosing by the number of glass panels alone.

Does an Ortal Space Creator need an existing fireplace?

No. It contains its own firebox and belongs in a purpose-designed installation. It is not a gas insert for an existing wood-burning fireplace.

Can an Ortal Space Creator provide heat during a power outage?

Yes, an eligible screen-equipped configuration without lights, power vent, Heat Control System or Wi-Fi can use four AA receiver batteries, with a continuing gas supply. Double-glass configurations cannot operate on that battery arrangement. We confirm the selected model’s eligibility and explain operation and annual battery replacement.

Does an Ortal Space Creator require household power?

Yes. The current built-in manual requires the normal installation to include a 120-volt duplex receptacle. Battery capability, where permitted, does not eliminate this requirement. Chimneys Plus coordinates the necessary electrical work.

Can an Ortal Space Creator heat both sides of an open room evenly?

That depends on the layout, insulation and heat-release arrangement. We help plan comfortable use, but do not promise equal temperatures in each area or whole-home heating from the fireplace.

Can Chimneys Plus handle the gas supply and permits for an Ortal Space Creator?

Yes. We check gas capacity, handle or coordinate any required piping changes and handle applicable permits. That review also applies when an existing gas fireplace is being replaced.

What maintenance does an Ortal Space Creator need?

Plan for qualified inspection and service at least annually. The glass, seals, barriers, burner, pilot, venting and airflow paths all need attention appropriate to the selected configuration. Access for that service is part of the original design.
