Valor Portrait ZC Gas Fireplace Selection and Installation

The Valor Portrait ZC brings a compact, upright fireplace shape to spaces that do not call for a wide linear design. It is a useful option to explore for a smaller room or a traditional interior where the front’s character is as important as the size of the flame view.

Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.

Choosing the right fireplace for your room

This is the built-in, zero-clearance Portrait application—not a freestanding stove and not the separate insert installation. It contains its own firebox. Compatible cast or clean-lined ZC fronts let the room determine the style, while the compact proportions give you another choice alongside the newer P2.

Planning your installation

A built-in fireplace includes its own firebox; it is not an insert that depends on another fireplace around it. Sealed direct vent brings combustion air from outside and exhausts outdoors, rather than using already-conditioned room air for combustion. We check the approved vent route, gas capacity, enclosure, required clearances, finish materials and service access together. A viewing-area or body measurement is not an installed footprint.

HeatShift is not listed as an approved option for the current Portrait ZC. Chimneys Plus plans the fireplace around its approved zero-clearance front, enclosure and mantel requirements.

Basic heating does not require household electricity. An optional circulating fan needs electrical power, which we coordinate when that accessory is selected. Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates gas piping, required electrical work and permitting, so you do not need to arrange those separately. We confirm the applicable permits even when replacing a fireplace that already has a gas line.

The supplied safety barrier must remain in place during operation; the glass and nearby surfaces still become hot. Plan professional inspection at least annually and follow the model’s cleaning and battery-maintenance instructions.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Valor Portrait ZC gas fireplace?

It is the built-in version of the Portrait family. It provides its own firebox and can be installed in an approved framed enclosure rather than needing a pre-existing fireplace.

How does the Valor Portrait ZC compare with the P2?

The Portrait has traditional and cleaner ZC front choices and a Valor Plus remote. The P2 is another compact option with Valor 10 controls and an approved built-in HeatShift option. We compare appearance and installation requirements, not just size.

Which fronts work with the Valor Portrait ZC?

Approved ZC front options include styles such as President, Windsor Arch and Clearview. A similarly named insert or stove front is not automatically suitable for the built-in application.

Can the Valor Portrait ZC vent through a wall?

Yes, approved top- and rear-vent arrangements are available. The selected route and terminal still have to comply with the current fireplace and front instructions.

Is the Valor Portrait ZC available for propane?

Yes. The 530VP is the propane engine and the 530VN is natural gas. Fuel choice is confirmed before the fireplace and venting package are specified.

Can the Valor Portrait ZC provide heat during a power outage?

Yes! With an available gas supply and working control batteries, the fireplace can provide supplemental room heat during a power outage. The optional circulating fan will not operate without household power. This is not a guarantee of whole-home heating.

Who handles the Valor Portrait ZC gas line, electrical work and permits?

Chimneys Plus handles or coordinates the required gas piping, electrical work and permitting. We verify the existing supply and installation requirements, including for a fireplace switch-out; an existing gas line does not eliminate the need to check permits.

How do I know whether the Valor Portrait ZC will heat my room comfortably?

We consider room layout, insulation, ceiling height and heat loss, along with the fireplace’s low and high settings. That helps us match its supplemental warmth to the space where you will enjoy it most.
