Napoleon Rosedale 3 Gas Insert Selection and Installation
Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.
A traditional fire view with flexible heating options
The Napoleon Rosedale 3 is worth exploring when you want to make an existing fireplace more useful while keeping the familiar appearance of a log fire. Oak and birch log choices, different interior finishes and compatible surrounds help you create a look that belongs in the room.
The Rosedale 3 also offers a distinctive choice: an optional hybrid blower/heater that adds an electric heating mode to the gas appliance. That may appeal to homeowners who want a lower-heat option during milder weather, but it is not necessary for every installation. Chimneys Plus can help you decide whether a straightforward gas setup, a circulating blower or the hybrid option best matches how you plan to use the fireplace.

Choose the features that matter to you
- A broad log-fire view. The Rosedale 3 has a wider viewing area than the Rosedale 2.
- A choice of finishes. Approved log sets, interior panels, faceplates and backing plates help complement the existing hearth.
- Remote convenience. An included F60 remote supports on/off and thermostat operation.
- Optional circulation. A conventional blower can help distribute the gas fire’s warmth when power is available.
- Optional electric heat. The hybrid blower/heater adds an electric heating mode for milder days and can supplement gas heating.
- Backup gas heat. The gas heating system can operate during an electrical outage; electrically powered accessories cannot.
The sealed direct-vent system draws combustion air from outdoors and sends exhaust outside. Unlike an open fireplace, it does not draw already-conditioned room air into the fire and send it up the chimney.
A complete installation, with help choosing the right setup
The Rosedale 3 goes inside an approved existing masonry or factory-built wood-burning fireplace. It is not a replacement for the entire fireplace or a built-in fireplace for a newly framed wall.
We evaluate the cavity, the fireplace and chimney’s condition, venting, gas-line location, hearth and required mantel and sidewall clearances. Front and backing-plate selections also affect the finished appearance and need to be considered with the installation.
Electrical needs depend on the chosen accessories. The optional blower requires household power, and the hybrid blower/heater requires a dedicated 15-amp circuit. If that work is needed, Chimneys Plus coordinates it as part of the installation. You do not have to arrange it separately.
The Chimneys Plus team includes CSIA- and NFI-certified professionals. Together with our North Carolina general contractor and fuel-piping licenses, these qualifications reflect our commitment to knowledgeable fireplace installation and service.

Frequently asked questions
Who should consider the Napoleon Rosedale 3?
It is an option for homeowners who want a traditional log-fire appearance with convenient gas heating and a choice of circulation features. Its optional hybrid blower/heater may interest you if you want an additional electric-heating mode for milder weather. We will help you compare whether those features are useful for your room and how you intend to use the fireplace.
Will the Rosedale 3 fit my fireplace?
Napoleon publishes a minimum fireplace opening of 29 inches wide × 21 inches high × 15 inches deep. Those measurements refer to the fireplace opening, not the insert’s outside dimensions or a surround’s coverage area.
The fireplace must be an approved wood-burning host in suitable condition. We also check tapered walls, masonry steps, gas-line and valve protrusion, vent routing, hearth requirements, and clearances to the mantel, mantel legs and sidewalls. Chimneys Plus can help determine whether the Rosedale 3 is suitable and identify any adjustments needed for installation.
What does the Rosedale 3’s hybrid option do?
The optional RD3BK-HY blower/heater adds an electric heating element to the gas insert. It allows electric heat without the gas burner operating, or additional electric heat while using the gas fire. It does not create a simulated electric flame: the visible flames are produced by the gas burner.
The hybrid option is different from an ordinary blower, which moves heat from the gas fire without adding a heating element. We can help you decide whether either option makes sense for your home. Operating costs depend on your utility rates and use, so we do not assume the hybrid mode will always save money.
Does the Rosedale 3 require electrical work?
Its millivolt gas-heating system does not rely on household electricity to produce the flame. A conventional optional blower does require power. The optional hybrid blower/heater requires a dedicated 15-amp electrical circuit under its installation instructions.
That means electrical work can vary with the configuration and the power already available at your fireplace. Chimneys Plus coordinates any required electrical work as part of your fireplace installation, so you do not need to arrange it separately. We include those requirements in the installation plan before you commit to a configuration.
Is the Rosedale 3 a dependable backup heat source?
Yes! The Rosedale 3 can continue providing gas heat during a power outage when the gas supply is available. Its remote receiver uses batteries, and those batteries and the remote’s batteries need to be maintained for remote operation.
The optional blower and the hybrid electric-heating element stop working when household power is unavailable. The gas fire still supplies warmth, although heat circulation differs without a blower. It is useful backup warmth for a living area rather than a promise to heat the entire home.
What style and control options are available for the Napoleon Rosedale 3?
Napoleon offers oak and birch log sets with compatible interior-panel, faceplate and backing-plate choices. We help you compare the finished proportions and appearance with your existing hearth.
The included F60 remote provides on/off and thermostat operation. The optional hybrid heater has its own specified control arrangement; its electric heating should not be assumed to operate through the same remote controls as the gas burner.
Is the Rosedale 3 available for propane?
Yes. Napoleon lists an approved propane configuration as well as natural gas. We confirm the fuel supply and select or configure the appliance with the manufacturer’s approved components. Gas conversion is work for a qualified professional.
Can Chimneys Plus install a gas line for the Napoleon Rosedale 3 if my fireplace doesn’t have one?
Yes! Chimneys Plus is licensed in North Carolina to install gas piping, and we routinely handle this work as part of gas fireplace appliance installations. We can evaluate your existing gas supply, install the piping needed for your new appliance and handle the required permitting.
Is a permit required in North Carolina to install a Napoleon Rosedale 3 gas insert?
Permit requirements depend on the work involved and your local inspection department. Installing a new gas line requires permitting. Replacing the fireplace itself also requires permitting, even when the gas line already exists.
For gas logs or an insert installed inside an existing fireplace, we’ll confirm the requirements for your project, including any electrical work. Whenever a permit is required, Chimneys Plus handles the permitting for you.
Should I choose gas logs or a gas insert such as the Napoleon Rosedale 3?
Vented gas logs are primarily chosen for the appearance and ambiance of an open fire. If you want regular room heat, convenient operation and backup warmth, a sealed direct-vent insert is often a better fit.
Vent-free gas logs can provide a quick burst of warmth, such as taking the chill off a room in the morning. They also release combustion byproducts and moisture into the home. Chimneys Plus recommends short operating periods, generally a couple of hours at a time, rather than continuous heating, with ventilation that may include cracking a window as required by the appliance instructions and room conditions. An open window does not replace those ventilation requirements.
For longer periods of heating, a direct-vent insert is often the better choice because it draws combustion air from outdoors and vents exhaust outside. If you are adding a fireplace where none exists or replacing the entire fireplace, a built-in gas fireplace may be the appropriate option. We can help you compare these technologies.
Do I need to choose an insert such as the Napoleon Rosedale 3 before contacting Chimneys Plus?
No! Tell us what you would like to improve about your fireplace, whether that is warmth, ambiance, convenience or backup heat. We can help you compare suitable products and understand the installation requirements before you decide.
