Napoleon Rosedale 2 Gas Insert Selection and Installation

Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.

A smaller insert with the warmth and appearance of a traditional fire

If you would like to enjoy your existing fireplace more often, the Napoleon Rosedale 2 is one option worth exploring. Its compact format, wood-style logs and glowing ember-bed lighting offer a welcoming focal point without the work of tending a wood fire.

Chimneys Plus can help you compare the Rosedale 2 with other inserts based on your fireplace, the look you enjoy and how you want to heat the room. You do not need to choose a model before contacting us.

Warmth, convenience and a finished look

  • A traditional fire appearance. Choose an approved oak or birch log set and complementary interior panels.
  • Convenient operation. Electronic ignition and an included remote make everyday use easier.
  • Added ambiance. The electric ember bed adds a glow beneath the logs.
  • Included air circulation. A built-in blower helps distribute warmth when electrical power is available.
  • Backup warmth. The gas fire can operate during an outage using its battery-backup system.
  • Sealed direct venting. The combustion system draws air from outdoors and carries exhaust outside, rather than using room air for the fire.

An open fireplace draws air your home has already heated into the fire and sends it up the chimney, carrying much of the fire’s heat with it. A direct-vent gas insert keeps that combustion process separate from your room air while delivering useful warmth into the home.

Installed inside your existing fireplace

The Rosedale 2 is a gas insert: it goes inside an approved existing masonry or factory-built wood-burning fireplace. It does not replace the entire fireplace, and it is not a built-in appliance that can simply be framed into an empty wall.

We check more than the opening dimensions. The fireplace’s condition and shape, chimney and venting, gas-line location and protrusion, hearth, mantel and nearby sidewalls all affect suitability. Faceplates and backing plates then help finish the space around the insert.

Electrical planning is part of this installation. The included blower and ember-bed lighting need household power. If suitable power is not already available, additional electrical work may be needed. Chimneys Plus coordinates any required electrical work as part of your fireplace installation, so you do not need to arrange it separately.

The Chimneys Plus team includes CSIA- and NFI-certified professionals. Together with our North Carolina general contractor and fuel-piping licenses, these qualifications reflect our commitment to knowledgeable fireplace installation and service.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the Napoleon Rosedale 2 a good fit for?

It is worth considering when you want a smaller gas insert with a traditional log appearance, remote operation and ember-bed lighting. The best choice depends on your existing fireplace and heating goals, so we help you compare it with other suitable options rather than choose by appearance alone.

Will the Rosedale 2 fit my fireplace?

Napoleon publishes a minimum fireplace opening of 27 inches wide × 18 inches high × 15 inches deep for the Rosedale 2. These are fireplace-opening requirements, not the insert’s overall outside dimensions or the size covered by a backing plate.

Meeting those three dimensions does not establish fit. We also check rear-wall taper, masonry steps, gas piping and shutoff-valve protrusion, vent routing, hearth conditions, and clearances to the mantel, mantel legs and sidewalls. The existing fireplace must be an approved wood-burning host in suitable condition. Chimneys Plus can help determine whether this insert is right for your fireplace and identify any adjustments needed for installation.

What style options does the Rosedale 2 offer?

Napoleon offers oak and birch log choices, decorative brick or reflective interior panels, and compatible faceplates and backing plates. The combination affects the finished appearance and must suit the installation. We can help you compare the options with your room’s existing brick, stone, trim and furnishings.

How is the Rosedale 2 controlled?

It uses electronic ignition and an included remote control. The remote provides convenient control of the fire and its supported features. We explain the controls and battery requirements as part of the installation so you are comfortable using the appliance.

Is the Rosedale 2 a dependable backup heat source?

Yes! With gas available and the required batteries working, the Rosedale 2 can continue providing gas heat during a power outage. Its backup holder uses four AA batteries, and the remote also needs working batteries.

The blower and electric ember-bed lighting do not operate from the appliance’s backup batteries. You still receive heat from the gas fire, although heat circulation differs without the blower. It can provide useful warmth in the living area rather than a guarantee of heating the entire home.

Does the Rosedale 2 need an electrical connection?

Yes, plan for suitable household power for its included blower and ember-bed lighting. The battery system is for backup operation and should not be treated as permission to omit the normal electrical installation.

If a suitable connection is already present, we will check whether it can be used. Adding or relocating power involves additional work and investment. Chimneys Plus coordinates the required electrical work as part of the fireplace installation, so you do not have to arrange it separately.

Can the Rosedale 2 use natural gas or propane?

Yes. Napoleon lists natural gas with an approved propane-conversion option. The appliance must be configured for your actual fuel supply using the correct listed components; changing fuel is work for a qualified professional, not a homeowner adjustment.

Can Chimneys Plus install a gas line for the Napoleon Rosedale 2 if my fireplace doesn’t have one?

Yes! Chimneys Plus is licensed in North Carolina to install gas piping, and we routinely handle this work as part of gas fireplace appliance installations. We can evaluate your existing gas supply, install the piping needed for your new appliance and handle the required permitting.

Is a permit required in North Carolina to install a Napoleon Rosedale 2 gas insert?

Permit requirements depend on the work involved and your local inspection department. Installing a new gas line requires permitting. Replacing the fireplace itself also requires permitting, even when the gas line already exists.

For gas logs or an insert installed inside an existing fireplace, we’ll confirm the requirements for your project, including any electrical work. Whenever a permit is required, Chimneys Plus handles the permitting for you.

Should I choose gas logs or a gas insert such as the Napoleon Rosedale 2?

Vented gas logs are primarily chosen for the appearance and ambiance of an open fire. If you want regular room heat, convenient operation and backup warmth, a sealed direct-vent insert is often a better fit.

Vent-free gas logs can provide a quick burst of warmth, such as taking the chill off a room in the morning. They also release combustion byproducts and moisture into the home. Chimneys Plus recommends short operating periods, generally a couple of hours at a time, rather than continuous heating, with ventilation that may include cracking a window as required by the appliance instructions and room conditions. An open window does not replace those ventilation requirements.

For longer periods of heating, a direct-vent insert is often the better choice because it draws combustion air from outdoors and vents exhaust outside. If you are adding a fireplace where none exists or replacing the entire fireplace, a built-in gas fireplace may be the appropriate option. We can help you compare these technologies.

Do I need to choose an insert such as the Napoleon Rosedale 2 before contacting Chimneys Plus?

No! Tell us what you would like to improve about your fireplace, whether that is warmth, ambiance, convenience or backup heat. We can help you compare suitable products and understand the installation requirements before you decide.
