Would you like more warmth, easier operation or dependable backup heat from your fireplace? Chimneys Plus helps you compare gas inserts based on your existing fireplace, your heating goals and the appearance you prefer.
Serving the Triangle and surrounding Central North Carolina communities.
The Valor G2 is especially worth considering when space is limited. Its compact size creates possibilities for smaller wood-burning fireplaces, including eligible manufactured fireplaces that cannot accommodate a larger insert.
You don’t need to know which insert to choose before contacting us. Whether you’ve been told your fireplace is too small or you’re just beginning to explore your options, we can help you understand what will work in your home.
Contact Chimneys Plus to discuss your fireplace and explore your options.
The G2 combines a traditional log fire with practical room heat in a compact insert. It’s worth considering if you want:
A smaller opening does not automatically rule out an insert, but dimensions alone cannot confirm compatibility. We’ll help you compare suitable options for everyday heat, ambiance, backup warmth or a combination of those goals.
Installing a G2 does not mean removing and replacing your entire fireplace. An insert fits inside a compatible existing wood-burning fireplace, converting it to gas operation.
The G2 may be suitable for a smaller masonry fireplace or an eligible factory-built wood-burning fireplace. Chimneys Plus checks the original fireplace, internal space, venting and complete insert-and-front configuration before recommending it.
A built-in gas fireplace has its own firebox and heat-containment enclosure. An insert needs an approved existing fireplace around it, so it cannot simply be placed directly into a framed wall or inside any existing gas fireplace.
An open fireplace draws air your home has already heated into the fire and sends it up the chimney, carrying much of the fire’s heat with it. The G2’s sealed direct-vent system draws combustion air from outdoors and carries exhaust outside, keeping that process separate from your room air.
Radiant heat warms people and objects near the fireplace, while natural convection carries warmed air into the room. The G2 does not depend on a blower to provide heat.
When the power goes out, the G2 can keep heating. With an available gas supply and working control batteries, its burner and radiant heating operate without household electricity.
That makes it a practical source of warmth for your living area when your central heating cannot run. The optional blower requires electricity, but the insert continues producing heat without it.
The G2 includes traditional logs and a plain black liner that keeps attention on the flames. Its Edgemont front is available with a three-sided or four-sided backing plate to finish the fireplace opening.
The right configuration depends on your fireplace and hearth arrangement as well as the appearance you prefer. We can help you compare the G2’s finished look with other suitable inserts.
The included Valor 10 remote provides flame adjustment, thermostatic operation and programmed heating periods. Optional wall controls are also available.
For current G2 400AN and 400AP models:
Input describes the gas energy used; output describes the heat delivered. Minimum cavity dimensions are a starting point, not a guarantee of fit.

The G2 may be an option for an eligible factory-built wood-burning fireplace that cannot accommodate a larger insert. The original fireplace and the complete G2 installation configuration must meet the manufacturer’s requirements.
Valor lists a minimum fireplace cavity of 25 inches wide × 18⅜ inches high × 11 inches deep. These measurements are a starting point, not a guarantee of fit.
Tapered firebox walls, raised hearth curbs and other obstructions can reduce usable space. The location of the gas line, how far it protrudes into the firebox and its relationship to the shutoff valve, optional fan and fan cord also matter.
Required clearances to the mantel, mantel legs and nearby side walls must be checked, along with the hearth, venting and selected front. Any custom backing plate must also be evaluated as part of the complete installation.
Chimneys Plus can help determine whether the G2 is suitable for your fireplace or whether another option would be a better fit.
A gas insert is designed to fit inside an existing approved fireplace. A built-in gas fireplace has its own firebox and heat-containment enclosure, so it does not need another fireplace around it; it is installed according to its own framing, clearance and venting requirements.
The Valor G2 is a gas insert. It cannot be installed directly into a framed opening or simply placed inside an existing gas fireplace.
If you already have a gas insert, the G2 may be a replacement option, but only if the original wood-burning fireplace beneath that insert and the complete new installation meet the G2’s requirements. Chimneys Plus will identify the existing fireplace and verify compatibility before recommending installation.
Yes! The Valor G2 provides dependable backup heat during a power outage, which is one of the biggest reasons to choose a gas insert. Its burner and radiant heating operate without household electricity, so you can continue enjoying warmth as long as your gas supply is available and the control-system batteries are working.
The optional blower requires electricity, but the insert continues heating without it. It’s a practical source of warmth for your main living area when your central heating is unavailable, rather than a replacement for a whole-home heating system.
Valor lists maximum heat output of 16,986 BTU/hr for natural gas and 17,296 BTU/hr for propane. The separate 22,000-BTU/hr rating is maximum gas input, not delivered heat.
Room size, insulation, ceiling height and heat loss affect how well an insert will meet your heating needs. Chimneys Plus can help you compare the G2 with other suitable options rather than choosing by the BTU rating alone.
The G2 includes traditional logs, a black liner and a Valor 10 thermostatic remote. Select an Edgemont front with either a three-sided or four-sided backing plate, purchased separately.
The four-sided version extends 6½ inches below the appliance, so the hearth arrangement matters. Optional wall controls are also available.
Yes! Chimneys Plus is licensed in North Carolina to install gas piping, and we routinely handle this work as part of gas fireplace appliance installations. We can evaluate your existing gas supply, install the piping needed for your new appliance and handle the required permitting.
Permit requirements depend on the work involved and your local inspection department. Installing a new gas line requires permitting. Replacing the fireplace itself also requires permitting, even when the gas line already exists.
For gas logs or an insert installed inside an existing fireplace, we’ll confirm the requirements for your project. Whenever a permit is required, Chimneys Plus handles the permitting for you.
The right choice depends on your existing fireplace and what you want from it. Vented gas logs are primarily chosen for the appearance and ambiance of an open fire. If you want regular room heat, convenient temperature control and dependable backup heat, a direct-vent gas insert such as the Valor G2 is often a better fit.
Vent-free gas logs can provide a quick burst of warmth, such as taking the chill off a room in the morning. For longer periods of heating, a sealed direct-vent insert is often the better choice. Vent-free logs produce substantial room heat, but release combustion byproducts and moisture into the home. They are intended for supplemental, intermittent use rather than continuous heating. Chimneys Plus recommends short operating periods, generally a couple of hours at a time, with ventilation that may include cracking a window as required by the appliance instructions and room conditions. An open window does not replace those ventilation requirements.
A sealed direct-vent insert draws combustion air from outdoors and vents exhaust outside, making it worth considering even if you initially had vent-free gas logs in mind. If you’re adding a fireplace where none exists or replacing the entire fireplace, a built-in gas fireplace may be the appropriate option instead.
Chimneys Plus can help you compare these choices based on your home, heating goals and preferred appearance.
